Window Replacement in Birmingham, AL Measured to fit. Sealed all around.

Replacement windows measured for each opening, then flashed, insulated, sealed and trimmed.

Window Replacement · Birmingham, AL

Every opening gets measured on its own.

A replacement window goes into the opening your old window leaves behind.

No two openings in a house are quite the same, so we measure each one on its own.

The old sashes and stops come out, and we check the sill and frame for rot.

The new unit is set level and plumb, shimmed, and fastened so it opens and locks the way it should.

We insulate the gap around the frame and seal the outside against rain.

Outside, the trim is capped in aluminum and caulked where it meets the siding or brick.

We also hang exterior doors.

What the job includes

What a window job includes.

  1. Opening-by-opening measure

Every window is measured in several places so the new unit fits its own opening.

  2. Old window removal

Sashes, stops and old hardware come out, and the inside trim stays in place where it can.

  3. Sill and frame check

Soft or rotted wood at the sill is repaired before the new window goes in.

  4. Flashing and sealing

Exposed openings get a sill pan and flashing tape, and the outside joint is caulked.

  5. Insulating the gap

The gap between the new frame and the opening is filled with low-expansion foam.

  6. Trim and capping

Outside trim is wrapped in bent aluminum, and the inside stops go back on and get caulked.

What to look for

Signs a window is worn out

  • You feel a draft with the window shut and locked.
  • Fog or moisture is trapped between the panes of glass.
  • A sash will not stay up or is hard to open.
  • The sill or bottom of the frame is soft when pressed.
  • Water stains on the wall or trim below the window.

Window styles and frame choices

Double-hung windows are the most common style here, with two sashes that slide up and down.

Sliders, casements and picture windows fit openings where a double-hung does not make sense.

Vinyl frames need no paint, which is why most replacement windows are vinyl.

Double-pane insulated glass is standard, and coatings on the glass cut down on summer heat.

Grid patterns can be matched to the old windows so the front of the house keeps its look.

Around Birmingham

Hot summers find every gap.

Summers around Birmingham are hot and humid, and a drafty window lets cooled air out all season.

Driving rain in storm season finds any gap at the sill or the top of the frame.

Older homes in the first suburbs often have wood windows with sash weights and painted-shut sashes.

In the subdivisions south of town, original builder windows are reaching the age where seals fail.

Straight answers

Window Replacement, answered.

Something else on your mind? Call (205) 728-8690.

Do you have to tear up the walls to replace a window?

Usually not. A replacement window fits inside the existing frame, so siding and drywall stay put.

If the frame itself is rotted, the opening needs more work, and we tell you before we start.

How long does window replacement take?

It depends on how many windows there are and what shape the old frames are in.

The windows are made to order, so most of the wait is for them to arrive.

Can you replace just a few windows?

Yes. Many people start with the worst ones or with one side of the house.

New windows can be ordered to match the grids and color of the ones that stay.

Do you install exterior doors too?

Yes, we hang exterior doors as well as windows.

The door is set plumb in the opening, flashed at the sill and sealed like a window.
