Gutter Installation in Birmingham, AL Water off the roof. Away from the house.
Seamless aluminum, half-round and copper gutters, pitched to drain and aimed away from the house.
Gutter Installation · Birmingham, AL
A gutter has one job: move the water away.
A gutter has one job, which is to get roof water to the ground and away from the house.
We run seamless aluminum K-style gutter in single lengths, so the only joints are at the corners.
For older and custom homes we also hang half-round and copper gutters.
Before anything goes up, we check the fascia and soffit, since the gutter hangs on that wood.
Each run is pitched toward its outlet so water does not sit in it.
Downspouts go where they can carry the water away from the foundation.

Our workWhat the job includes
What a gutter job includes.
Seamless aluminum K-style
Each run is formed in one piece, in the 5 and 6 inch sizes most houses use.
Half-round and copper
Rounded profiles and copper suit older homes and custom work where the gutter is on show.
Fascia and soffit check
Rotted fascia or sagging soffit is repaired first so the hangers have solid wood to bite.
Slope to the outlets
Each run is set with a slight fall toward the downspout so water drains instead of standing.
Downspout placement
Downspouts are placed for the roof area they drain and where the water has somewhere to go.
Water away from the house
Elbows and extensions point the water away from the foundation, not into the flower bed.
Our work
Our workWhat to look for
Signs your gutters need work
- Water pours over the front edge in a steady rain.
- A run sags or has pulled away from the fascia.
- Seams or corners drip long after the rain has stopped.
- Peeling paint or soft wood on the fascia behind the gutter.
- Washed-out mulch or soil below a downspout or corner.
K-style, half-round and copper
K-style gutters have a flat back and a shaped front, and they are what most homes here have.
The 5 inch size handles most roofs, and the 6 inch size moves more water off big or steep ones.
Half-round gutters are the older profile and look right on prewar houses.
Copper is soldered at the joints and weathers from bright to brown and then to green.
Aluminum will not rust and comes in baked-on colors to match the trim.
Around Birmingham
Heavy rain and a lot of pine straw.
Birmingham gets heavy rain in every season, so gutters here work all year.
Pines and oaks drop needles and leaves that clog outlets and hold water against the fascia.
Storms in spring and late fall can put a lot of water on a roof in a short time.
Half-round suits the older homes close to town, and K-style suits the subdivisions to the south.

Plan the outlets
We agree on gutter size, color, and where each downspout comes down.
Hang the gutters
Old gutters come down, fascia is repaired where needed, and new runs go up on a slope.
Test and clean up
We check that water runs to the outlets, haul off the old metal, and walk it with you.

Often done together
What does seamless mean?
Each straight run is one continuous piece of aluminum with no joints along its length.
The only seams are at the corners and end caps, so there are fewer places to leak.
Do I need 5 inch or 6 inch gutters?
It depends on how much roof drains into each run and how steep the roof is.
Most houses do fine with 5 inch, and big or steep roof sections often call for 6 inch.
Why do my gutters overflow in a hard rain?
Usually the outlet is clogged, the run has lost its slope, or there are too few downspouts.
We check all three before we recommend replacing anything.
Can you replace gutters without replacing the roof?
Yes, gutters hang on the fascia and can be replaced on their own.
If the roof is due soon, it is easier to do the roof first and the gutters after.
Do you install gutter guards?
Yes. We install gutter guards along with new seamless gutters.
They earn their keep where pines and oaks hang over the roof.
