Siding Installation in Birmingham, AL Walls wrapped first. Siding hung level.

Vinyl lap siding hung over housewrap, with the trim, soffit and fascia finished to match.

Siding Installation · Birmingham, AL

Good siding is what you cannot see behind it.

Siding is the part you see, and the wall behind it is the part that matters.

We take the old siding off and look at the sheathing and trim before we cover anything.

Rotted wood gets cut out and replaced, then the wall is wrapped in housewrap.

Starter strip goes on level at the bottom, and every course above it follows that line.

J-channel frames the windows and doors so the panel ends have a place to tuck in.

Panels are hung loose on their nails so they can move when the sun heats them.

The estimate is free, and we measure the whole house for it.

What the job includes

What a siding job includes.

  1. Old siding removal

The old cladding comes off so we can see the sheathing instead of siding over problems.

  2. Sheathing and trim repair

Rotted sheathing, corner boards and window trim are replaced with sound material.

  3. Housewrap

A water-resistant wrap goes over the sheathing, lapped so water runs down and out.

  4. Starter strip and J-channel

A level starter strip sets the first course, and J-channel trims out the windows and doors.

  5. Vinyl lap siding

Panels lock into the course below and are nailed in the slots with room to slide.

  6. Soffit and fascia wrap

Vented soffit panels and aluminum fascia wrap finish the eaves to match the siding.

What to look for

When siding needs replacing

  • Panels are cracked, loose or rattling in the wind.
  • Boards are soft, swollen or flaking paint at the bottom edge.
  • Wavy or buckled panels on the sunny side of the house.
  • Caulk has pulled away around windows and corner trim.
  • Gaps where panels have come unhooked from the course below.

Vinyl siding and the trim around it

Vinyl lap siding is what we hang most, and it is common on homes across the Birmingham area.

It comes in different widths and profiles, including a Dutch lap with a shadow line.

Vinyl grows and shrinks with temperature, so panels are cut short of the trim and nailed loose.

Soffit and fascia can be wrapped at the same time so the eaves match the walls.

Corner posts, window trim and soffit come in matching or contrasting colors.

Around Birmingham

Sun, humidity and older sheathing.

Hot summers around Birmingham make vinyl expand, which is why tight nailing leads to buckling.

Heavy rain and humidity find any gap in the wrap, so the laps and window flashing get our attention.

Brick-and-siding houses are common here, with siding on the gables, dormers and additions.

Older homes can have wood siding under a later layer, so we check what is there before we plan.

  1. Measure and look

We measure the walls, check the trim and eaves, and give you a free estimate.

  2. Choose profile and color

You pick the siding profile, the color, and whether soffit and fascia are part of the job.

  3. Strip, repair and wrap

Old siding comes off, bad wood is replaced, and housewrap goes on before new panels.

  4. Hang, trim and walk it

Siding and trim go up, the yard is cleaned, and we walk around the house with you.

“Victor and Josue showed up on time and done a great job on the siding for my home. I would definitely recommend Mosqueda Construction for you siding and gutter needs.”

Can new siding go over the old siding?

Sometimes it can, but we would rather take the old layer off.

That is the only way to find rotted sheathing and wrap the wall properly.

Why does vinyl siding buckle or look wavy?

It was nailed too tight or cut too long, so it had no room to grow in the heat.

We nail in the center of the slots and leave a gap at the trim.

How long does a siding job take?

It depends on the size of the house, how many stories, and how much wood needs replacing.

Rain stops siding work, so the weather has a say too.

Do you replace soffit and fascia too?

Yes. We wrap fascia in aluminum and hang vented soffit, often on the same job as the siding.
